Seven Time Champion Lends A Helping Hand

Chase Elliott Runs Out of Fuel on Victory Lap, Jimmie Johnson Pushes Him to Victory Lane

Seven-Time Champion Lends a Helping Hand

Sometimes You Need a Little Push

In an iconic moment at Watkins Glen on Sunday, seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson came to the aid of Chase Elliott, who had run out of fuel on his victory lap.

Elliott had just won the Go Bowling at The Glen race when his Chevrolet Camaro stalled on the cool-down lap. Johnson, who was driving behind Elliott, immediately pulled up alongside and began pushing him towards the finish line.

With the help of Johnson, Elliott was able to make it back to Victory Lane, where he celebrated his first win of the season.

The moment was a reminder of the camaraderie and sportsmanship that exists within the NASCAR community. Johnson, who is in the twilight of his career, was more than happy to help out a young driver who is just starting to make his mark in the sport.

Elliott, who is now in his fourth full-time season in the Cup Series, said he was grateful for Johnson's help.

"I was just trying to get back to Victory Lane," Elliott said. "I didn't want to ruin the moment. Jimmie gave me a little push, and we made it. I'm really thankful for his help."

Johnson said he was just happy to help out a fellow driver.

"I've been in that situation before," Johnson said. "It's not a good feeling. I was just glad I could help Chase get back to Victory Lane."

The moment was a reminder that even in the fiercely competitive world of NASCAR, there is still room for kindness and sportsmanship.
