Early Career and Manager of the Year

Mike Shildt's baseball career began as a catcher for minor league teams. In 2009, he transitioned to coaching, joining the Cardinals' organization as a minor league manager. His success in the minors earned him the role of Cardinals' bench coach in 2017. In 2018, he became the Cardinals' manager and led the team to the National League Championship Series in 2019. That same year, he was named NL Manager of the Year.

Firing and Aftermath

Despite the Cardinals' success under his leadership, Shildt was abruptly fired in 2022. In the aftermath of this decision, audio tapes emerged that allegedly contained recordings of conversations between Shildt and Cardinals executives. These tapes sparked controversy and led to further scrutiny of the Cardinals' management.

2023 and Beyond

After his departure from the Cardinals, Shildt joined the San Diego Padres as a special assistant to the general manager. He continues to be involved in baseball and provides his expertise and insights to the team.
