Carlos Alcaraz outlasted the great Novak Djokovic in a thrilling Wimbledon mens final on Sunday, prevailing 1-6, 7-6, 8-6, 6-1.
The match was a back-and-forth affair, with both players trading blows from the baseline. Alcaraz, the worlds No. 2 player, was able to break Djokovic early in the first set and then held on to take the set 6-1.
Djokovic, the worlds No. 1 player, came back strong in the second set, breaking Alcaraz twice to take the set 7-6. The third set was another close one, with both players holding serve until the 12th game. Alcaraz was able to break Djokovic in that game and then served out the set 8-6.
In the fourth set, Alcaraz broke Djokovic in the first game and then held on to his serve for the rest of the set, taking the set 6-1 and the match 3-1.
With the win, Alcaraz becomes the youngest Wimbledon mens singles champion since Boris Becker in 1985. He is also the first Spanish man to win the Wimbledon mens singles title since Rafael Nadal in 2010.
